What a weekend!
A massive congratulations to all involved in the Bristol Avon Regatta 2005. With over 130 crews entered it was a day of fine racing, no capsizes, and great weather. The BBQ sold out and the cake stand offered the best in high calorie cooking.
A day to be proud of.
The moment I most appreciated was the slight delay in racing half way through the morning to re-align the course...
Through the combination of three radios came the dulcit tones of the finish umpire - who was unhappy with the closeness of some of the bouys; the start umpire - who wasn't too fussed about any of them; the mid-way umpire - who disagreed with everyone; and the harbour master who was moving the bouys.
"Left a bit, a bit more..."
"No, hang on - too much. Back a bit"
Then came the voice of reason. A man known for his prowess over the radio waves, and his decisiveness - cue: BRIAN.
Needless to say that racing eventually started again, about 30 minutes later - following a particularly long burst of expletives from the harbour master, and the removal of the offending bouys!!
Genius.
