I thought there was no doubling up? A couple of names appear more than once in the winners list...
I didn't realise the WS28+ had competition? Can they win a race against themselves... :)
Are these metaphorical medals?
People racing in an event with no other entries could get a medal by breaking the course record - something which the birds achieved...
You could say 'winners' because they bothered to take part.
Also actually finishing the course could be considered medal worthy, given swans, bridges and crabs just waiting to leap out of the water.

Relax - I only meant it as a tease. Well done to the girlies, and everyone else who competed, they had a good show for the race.
